This is an announcement for the August meeting of the 1TIM2 prayer ministry. I think this will change how church announcements are done. Whatcha think?
One point to remember is that when the Israelites prayed for kings in the Old Testament, they were warned not to by the prophet Samuel. But they continued and their wish was granted--and things didn't turn out as they planned. In the end, Israel was transformed from a prosperous libertarian society to a divided and conquered one.
But...it is always good to pray for our elected officials. I usually pray for the salvation of their souls and that they do not become so corrupted by power that they do more evil than we have come to expect. Perhaps as a result they engage in less coercive wealth transfers than otherwise would, or they promote less acts of state murder than what has become the norm. Thank goodness we have the example of Christ, who cared deeply for public officials as individuals but who never advocating using public authorities to advance his kingdom.
